Does Flash compensation show on exif?
  • PompoPompo October 2011
Does the Flash compensation show on exif? I can;t find it and I have shot a (IMHO) well balanced shoot with ettl
and I wouldlike to see what was the minus set at?
  • AllenAllen October 2011
Hi Pompo. If you use DPP, select the image then click the info button on the toolbar or select File > Info (Ctrl+I). If you used FEC it will be on the list, if you didn't it won't.

If you use Bridge, use the same menu option or keyboard shortcut as above to open the info panel. The FEC info is under the "Raw Data" tab and under the "Advanced" tab (in the Schema folder).

If those two tabs aren't visible, click the arrow on the right and select them from the drop-down list.

Also, if you are used a PocketWizard AC3 in your shoot, the FEC is NOT recorded into the EXIF, because it's not coming from the speedlight.

Photo Mechanic 4.6.8 will show Flash FEC

Is there an easy way to get FEC data into Lightroom 3? Love to see this with my other exif data.

You need a Lightroom plug-in to view it. Lightroom 3 does not natively expose the FEC metadata.

For example, try this one by Jeffrey Friedl:

Thanks Stephen. Have tried this one before and found it a bit cumbersome...seems like it has been updated; so will give it another whirl. Wonder what Neil uses....:)

You have to access the plug-in through the File->Plug-ins menu, so it is a bit cumbersome to access it. However, I have not found any other solution for Lightroom that works. Lightroom 4 is in beta now, so Adobe might have exposed the FEC value in that version, but I have not tried the beta software out yet.

Good idea. I think I will give it a whirl
