20 dollar vari nd filter?
  • NaftoliNaftoli February 1
anyone have experience with any of the really cheap vari nd filters on amazon? if u use it for photography and ur shooting raw i would think that color casting wont be an issue, what do u think

I don't have these, but at $20, I think those filters would be of lousy quality. ND filters need to be coated properly and have good optics. I don't think $20 would cover it. I'm using a 3-stop ND filter that costs $100.

thanks Stephen, i just bought one for $125 from b&h made by Lightcraft, well see how this one goes

Naftoli, the ones I use are by B+W. It's the same as what Neil has used in the past.

In general, for a given lens, good ND filters probably run in the $100-$200 range.

the one i got is a vari 2 to 8, stop im thinking i will still be able to focus with the filter on this way

Ok, you got a variable version. Mine is a fixed 3-stop version. Good luck with that one!
