Inexpensive ezybox
  • NaftoliNaftoli February 8
been thinking about buying the lastolight ezbox for off cameara on location lighting for a while, but the price is pretty exorbitant, then i found this website www.cheetahstand.com they make a version of the ezybox for less then half the price, i bought a 16 inch one for just 75 bucks plus it came with a swivel tilt ballhead mount, an eggcrate grid, and a circle mask, i used it by my most recent event and it did a great job! just felt like sharing

Having used the Cheetahstand C8, you have to be on a flat surface always. They will not deploy correctly if your surface is significantly uneven. For example, if your surface is a hillside or there is a tree root on the ground, the center part of the Cheetahstand will not be able to extend fully.

Yes, I own one, great for church/reception if I need extra lighting, but as Stephen pointed out, not made for uneven ground.

They do work in sand though, and on normal grass, as long as grass is level; sand, well just push the legs in to anchor.

    Naftoli,
Do you own a PocketWizard TT5? If so, does it fit onto the mounting bracket of your Qbox?
  • NaftoliNaftoli February 9
stephen, no i dont, i use cybersync which is manufactured by alien bees, i see no reason why the TT5 shouldnt fit, im pretty sure it has the same cold shoe mount as the ezybox,

matrixphoto, wow that is cheap! have u had any experience with it?
  • NaftoliNaftoli February 10
from the pictures it looks like the quality is compromised just a bit, it also doesnt have that ball head type of mount, but it does have two cold shoes if ur using pocket wizards

Actually I like the mounting bracket better than the ezbox one. I use mine with a Manfrotto umbrella bracket, I have both original and studio98 version I don't see a big difference between the two.

I think its a way to start at an economical price.
