Speed Light Working Distance?
  • SelbySelby February 12
I was talking with a friend who is a studio photographer for high end contracts. Our discussion led to a working distance for using speed lights, he said generally many photographers have an area they like to work with in. He explained that by doing this it allows a faster set up and it produces a consistent exposure. I know my details are some what vague but I have to start my conversation some where. :)

Manual flash exposure is determined by:
    - aperture
    - ISO
    - power
    and
    - distance.

So if the other variables are kept constant, then for a certain distance, you will always get the same exposure. It makes life simpler when you can more easily set up your lights, knowing that for *that* distance, you're most likely going to end up with exactly the same settings as before.
